January 28, 2025 – Impacting Children and Youth in Niagara, together.

With your support, United Way Niagara invests in solutions to local community issues, serving thousands of individuals and families every year. One of the main areas of focus for United Way is equipping youth with the tools they need to succeed. For a brighter future in Niagara, our youth population must be supported through access to everything they need to achieve their goals.

This note was sent to us by our friends at Niagara Sexual Assault Centre, which provides support and emergency services to sexual assault survivors and their families, as well as offers programs to prevent childhood trauma.

“Over the years, I’ve been witness to this program [Child Assault Prevention Program] and it continues to be one of the most effective, age-appropriate and valuable workshops available for children and staff. Always sensitive to the age and developmental levels of their group.”

United Way is proud to invest in the Child Assault Prevention Program so that young people in Niagara can recognize different types of bullying and abuse and learn how to react in a way that protects their well-being and works towards a safe and healthy future for youth in the community.
With support from donors like you, hundreds of youths were able to benefit from this program last year. Respondents said that students appeared more aware of how to deal with strangers and bullies as a result of the Child Assault Prevention program.

The Child Assault Prevention program is an educational program that gives children skills and strategies they can use in potentially abusive and dangerous situations. Through age-appropriate discussions and role-playing, the Niagara Sexual Assault Centre staff can teach about scenarios involving bullying, strangers, and abuse by someone they know. The program strives to inform children of their rights to be “safe, strong and free.”
