The Quest ‘fore’ a Million
This year marks the 26th anniversary of the United Way Golf tournament presented by Performance Auto Group. Our longstanding partnership on this tournament has been an important kick start to the annual fundraising campaign for Niagara.
As the newly amalgamated United Way Niagara, two premiere tournaments were offered for the first time in 2019 to help us get to our goal of raising $1,000,000 for the communities we serve through this tournament. We are so close!
Over the last quarter century, Performance Auto Group and the fabulous volunteer committees who meticulously plan and organize the tournament each year have nearly completed the ‘Quest for a Million’. “This is not just a golf tournament,” says long time Committee Co-Chair Bill Anderson, “it’s a way to support the ongoing need for those in our community.” Over the years, the stable revenue from this golf tournament has allowed United Way to confidently start the campaign in September and invest each year in valuable programs helping well over 125,000 people annually.
“Our agency partners depend on us” says Frances Hallworth, Executive Director for United Way Niagara. “Our funding model provides stable three-year funding terms which allow these agencies to plan ahead and think strategically so they can make a real impact in the areas they serve. They can rely on a steady monthly income in which to operate the important programs and help the most people in the best way possible.”
Though it may seem like just a golf tournament on the outside, the donations received each year represent support, safety, and a new life for many individuals in the Niagara Region.
The proceeds from this years’ tournament are expected to reach an estimated $70,000, enough to fund many of the United Way Niagara supported programs on its own. $70,000 to United Way means we are able to provide enough bathroom and kitchen supplies for 1,346 families trying to start new lives, helping keep 210 at risk youth off the streets and supporting them in working towards better lives, or two years’ worth of food for all of United Way Niagara’s after school programs.
The nearly $1,000,000 raised in the past 26 years has helped United Way change the lives of thousands of Niagara’s most in need. There is still time for golfers to register for this year’s tournament on August 12th; registration is open until August 2nd. Support the local Niagara community by spending the day out on one of Niagara’s most prestigious golf courses.
