Big news for United Way Niagara in 2019
On March 28th, nearly 500 United Way supporters filed in to White Oaks to hear what we have all been waiting for – did we hit our fundraising goal? We were thrilled to announce that thanks to the generosity of the Niagara community, $5,203,000 was raised in 2018! A significant achievement far surpassing our $5 million goal.
Sean Simpson is retiring his “red shoes” after three successful years as Campaign Chair. He passed the torch to Caroline Sherk from the Verge Insurance Group who addressed the sold out crowd saying “I will bring my skill set from my work, along with dedication and hard work to make this campaign a success and build a stronger Niagara together with all of you.”
She hasn’t wasted any time.
In her first few weeks in the role, Caroline was able to secure a new $50,000 gift. Gales Gas Bars Ltd. eagerly agreed to sponsor the 2019 Leadership Challenge. This pace setting contribution will match all new gift leadership gifts of $1,200 (or more) dollar for dollar. The challenge also matches increases of 10% or more from existing leadership donors. Jessica Friesen, CEO of Gales Gas Bars Ltd., joined Caroline on stage to announce the challenge. “Without Jessica’s clear focus on giving back to Niagara this wouldn’t have been possible. I am very eager to continue this momentum!” said Caroline. Gales has been a longtime supporter of United Way and the Niagara community and we are extremely grateful for their support.
Caroline first got involved with United Way in St. Catharines back in 2013 when her father, Mark Sherk, was Campaign Chair. “That’s when I got to see the impact the United Way has on our communities,” she said. “I heard the stories, how the organization helps so many people and does so much for Niagara.”
We are all looking forward to a great year with Caroline at the helm.
Thank you Caroline & Jessica!
