Community Impact Associate
Type of Position: Full Time permanent
Reporting to the Director of Community Impact, the Community Impact Associate is responsible for supporting United Way Niagara’s efforts to invest in programs and special initiatives that improve lives and build community. - Manage the After School Matters (ASM) program and related activities to ensure successful programming and provide outcomes reporting and adherence to policies and procedures;
- Develop, grow, manage, implement and report on special initiatives in support of United Way Niagara’s mission and community needs;
- Manage the United Way special initiatives warehouse and arrange/lead project activities;
- Lead, represent and/or participate in community consultations to support United Way’s involvement with community engagement, outreach and capacity building;
- Support the agency application process through United Way including the review of applications, data collection and reports;
- Aid in the engagement and support of the Community Investment Panel volunteers involved in the funding review and recommendation process;
- Develop new partnerships and manage ongoing relationships with agency stakeholders;
- Complete detailed grant applications and reports for special initiatives and projects;
- Stay current with and understand social and community issues and external funding priorities;
- Provide stewardship for community volunteers and partners who participate in supporting projects, agencies or the campaign;
- Participate in cross-functional projects and teams in support of United Way Niagara’s mission;
- Assist with other Community Investment or Campaign duties as required.
- Education: Post-secondary education in a related field and/or equivalent work-related experience.
- Experience: 1-2 years employment and/or volunteer experience in the non-profit social services.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Experience managing after-school programs or similar community based programming as asset;
- Experience working with CommunityForce or similar data/grant management software platforms an asset;
- Understanding of organizational and/or community capacity building an asset;
- Proven organizational abilities and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure;
- Proven ability to take initiative and carry projects to completion with minimum supervision;
- Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and constituent service skills including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with a diverse employee population and multiple stakeholders;
- Sound knowledge of the social service sector and community issues across Niagara;
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, in particular Microsoft Excel;
- Understanding of grant-making processes and ability to prepare and review reports/financials;
- Experience representing an agency and working with volunteers at all levels of an organization;
- Highly developed analytical skills with ability to conduct research and use independent judgment to problem-solve;
- Ability to coordinate and modify projects, and occasionally work with a group of external volunteers;
- Ability to understand and confidently implement policies and procedures;
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage constituent relationships;
- Strong communication and facilitation skills (both written and verbal).
